HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY

In 1981 St. Andrew's Preschool opened its doors in Leonardtown in a hall next to St. Peter's Chapel. From the first class of 20 children the preschool now has the capability to serve 40 preschool aged children in two separate class sessions. The school is now housed in a building erected by the original St. Andrew's Church on St. Andrew's Church Rd.

We believe that children learn as they do and as they see. Preschoolers learn best through play and exposure to age-appropriate activities. Through dramatic and creative play, art, music, literature, science and physical activities the young children will gain insights into themselves and the world around them. During our routine of each 2 1/2 hour session we try to incorporate all these areas of learning into our theme-based curriculum. Through the interactions with each other positive social skills are developed such as sharing, fair play, making friends and solving conflicts. Above all, we have a great time and lots of fun!!

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. Concern for the child's total growth and development - physical, social, cognitive and emotional.
  2. To provide an atmosphere for building a positive self-image
  3. To provide age-appropriate activities in an early childhood education program
